What and Why

The Good. We all know the term; it's what our mothers told us to be. It's what we've often failed to be. It's what we know to be right even when we do wrong. It's strength, courage, integrity, honor. It's kindness and humanity. The good is everything we strive for, no matter what the field of endeavor. The good is what we dream we can attain.

Plato contemplated the good and proposed a dimension in which only the highest, most ideal forms could exist. For in everything we do and in every way we are, there are ways that are good and ways that do not reach that high. Even naming the good, in any but the most abstract ways, is difficult, as all sorts of cultural representations are wrapped up in our definitions.

Nevertheless, impossible as the task may be, in this blog we will explore the good, tear it apart, put it back together, understand its nature, learn it parts. We all know and recognize the good when we see it. The words may get in the way, but we will try to work around the words.

Let's re-discover the good. And when we do, let's see if we can learn to live in ways that are consistent with this ideal.
